assdfl;khasdf;khajs;dkfjgasdg;lksjhdf my hand hurts :C

Whenever i get really excited about a piece, I just keep going and don't stop until it's done, even if it means I break my hand in the process :C

But anyway, this is for my very good friend :iconteithepony: , who made a song (which i listened to on loop for the duration of drawing this) in which this is the cover art for! I hope that you like it <3

I actually tried to NOT half-ass the background this time. I looked up references for sunsets and everything. Very proud of myself :'3

But really. I have finally done probably the most invloved piece for me since "I'm so sorry" and that's a good thing. Now I really want to play ocarina of time, or majora's mask. Maybe both. At the same time.

Everyone please tell me what you think! I put a lot of thought into this piece so if you give me criticism, I would like you to put a lot of thought into what you think I could fix or change about it as well, if you think I should <3

Thank you and I hope you like it!!

Note: You asked what you can do better and I am giving you my thoughts in order for you to improve, as you have asked.

Alright, some good things: It is obvious you put a lot of time into Celestia herself, and those wings are really detailed. Back legs I know are a pain at this angle and here they are proportioned really well. Also the visible tendons on the neck and back leg are a nice touch. The jewellery actually looks like metal, and is appropriately shiny. The colour variation in the grass adds depth.

Now some things you can improve: The lighting is just all over the place. We can obviously see the sun which is behind her, but the face is lit from the front (relative to our view), the wings are lit from the top and left, and the body is lit from the right. The jewellery is consistent with the body, but then there are stonger reflections on the left side. This separates Celestia from the background and makes her look out of place or photoshopped in. It should look more like this if she were lit from behind: [link]
Note the extremely strong rim lighting around the backs.

Something else that contributes to this are the colours. It's sunset, yet Celestia still looks the same as she would under a strong spotlight or full daylight. The problem with sunset and especially having the light source in the picture is it makes everything silhouetted like this [link] unless you have another strong secondary light source. However even dulling down the colours and making the shadows a lot stronger would help put Celestia in her environment more.

Framing: While I appreciate it probably took a while, the top quarter of the picture is superfluous and just draws the eye away from the comparatively busy bottom half. This is compounded by the implied lines with Celestia's gaze and hair, leading the eye up and right.

Also you missed some spots with the grass, and the lack in size variation on the left side makes it look flat compared with the pretty good right side. I've used these brushes before to make a background before, and it just looks like you rushed it and didn't take enough time to make it look natural.

In summary, you're really good at drawing Celestia and especially the wings, but you need to work on lighting and thinking about what a subject will look like in a scene rather than doing them separately.

If you asked me to describe this in a word, I'd probably break your neck for trying to force me to limit the amount of sheer praise for this. However, I'd probably yell "Stunning" as I did it.

This piece is Magnificent, it's beautiful, it's simply mind blowing. The shading, the segregation, the mood, the context, the sheer magnanimous beauty of this piece speaks wonders.

I loved her colors, they are well segregated, and beautifully chosen, they are so soft and smooth, but they impact me in a way few pieces have. Some pieces, or most will have certain things going for them, but this had multiple!

Her wings are what got to me the most. They are simply magnificent, and the sheer detail and skill put into them is clearly evident even to the most thick-headed viewer.

A problem I had was the mane. With all the detail put into the rest of this piece, it felt under-detailed, and rather two dimensional compared to the rest of her. I loved the soft coloration, but the flatness turned me off the piece a little bit.

Another this I truly loved was the jewelry, it was so ornate ad detailed on her! The soft sheen and the dimensions of the neck brace and the crown are amazing, and I really couldn't find fault.

Her eyes, too, were stunning, to overuse words of praise. They were perfect, and they expressed her emotions like I have not seen in a lot of work.

All in all, this piece was incredible, I had to really work to find what little fault I could within it. 9/10, I can not wait at all to see what you show us next!

Simply. glorious.

Really, I love the attention to detail here. Not a feather out of place, and her expression is wonderful. Love the wispy trails in her mane.

Fantastic work, really. :')

Very pretty. Is there a story behind this? Tears of sadness after Luna's banishment? Happiness after her return? Something else entirely?

This piece makes me cry with the sheer beauty of it... it seems to tell a story, though I'm not sure of what, but I sense shades of sadness, but also of happiness... I really love this piece.
