Emotional, sad and sorrow, pain... She got left behind, after feeling the power against her sister to take over Equestria. After Nightmare Moon was defeated and then defeated again, she feels like she gots nothing in Equestria...
I really love this piece and have been using it as my desktop wallpaper since I found it. But the other day I got a new wide-screen monitor, and can't use it any more. v.v I can set it to center & have bars on the side of the monitor, or set it to fit and have the text missing (which I feel is kind of wrong).
I like the idea of a scene (told in flashback) of her singing something like this, then a guard she didn't know was listening* answering with a rebuttal in verse, about how there ARE ponies that love her and want to see her restored. The emotion overwhelms Luna, and she breaks down crying in gratitude because of his compassion and courage for doing what he did.
*Because of the disguise factor of the armor, it could be any guard in theory. However, the scene would have enough specific "clues" to the benefactor's identity that the watchers - and Celestia in-universe, who in turn would tell Luna who it really was - could identify who's under that armor. I also think the hypothetical benefactor would be Shining Armor, for a couple obvious reasons.
But Luna...just as Celestia said, "You're loved more than you know!"
Congratulations on a very powerful and brilliantly done picture of Luna. It's such a great likeness of her. The texturing, her mane, and the heart wrenching tears complete this beautiful all-be-it sad scene.
...though it should be noted that, at least to my understanding, the lunar maria are large plains, distinct from the craters caused by meteorite impacts. According to Wikipedia, they were created by ancient lunar volcanoes. I didn't even know the moon had volcanoes!
I'll say it now and for a million times more...it's Celestia's fault, not Luna's! Why does she have to keep apologizing!? Anyway...this picture is amazing. Everyone can see Luna's feelings and feel the same way the moment they see the picture. Really nice job!
The way I see it is that : Celestia sent Luna to the Moon while she took care of the Sun...Still Celestia didnt realize how much would that cost to Luna (lonelyness etc.) and in the same time she didnt try enough to keep Luna close to her. When Luna became evil, Celestia banished her and took all the "credits" for both Sun and Moon, and therefore, Luna was shown as the evil creature and she was feared and hated by all. If Celestia has understood from the very begining that Luna would feel really sad and lonely, nothing would have happened. And if you ask about my sister in reality I have to say that : She is doing that already! And I do this to solve the problem : Hunt!

Well, Celestia didn't send Luna to the moon until she turned into Nightmare Moon and night had lasted a few days. Obviously Celestia had never considered Luna would ever return, as she told Twilight there would be no problems on the 1000th Summer Sun Celebration in the first episode. Celestia probably never realized that her sister felt lonely in the first place. Yes, maybe if Celestia realized Luna was lonely, nothing bad would have happened. But then again, Celestia is only human (or in her case, pony). People make many mistakes, but she never hated her sister. Personally, I think Celestia gets a bad rap. She had to go 1000 years without her beloved sister. Heck, maybe Nightmare Moon never even turned back into Luna while she was on the moon. Maybe she wasn't lonely, just plotting revenge. But please don't misunderstand me, I'm not bashing you and I do respect your opinion. Maybe this will help you see things from a new perspective. [link]
I felt the emotion the moment I saw the image. It wasn't Luna's fault in the first place. Her evil alter ego got hold of her; she lost control. Now, she is paying the price for a crime she did not purposely commit. A thousand years on the moon... too much...
